Meet the Board

The Dolphin Discovery Centre is a not for profit Incorporated organisation run by a Board of volunteers. The Board members are all local members of our community and have generously offered their time to be a part of the Dolphin Discovery Centre Team.

Our Board Members

Name: Rod Kroon

Position: Chairman

Rod is a Legal Practice Director Accredited Family Specialist for Kroon Legal in Bunbury. He is also Vice President of the Bunbury Repertory Club and Treasurer of the South West & Great Southern Law Society. Rod acts as an Independent Children’s Lawyer appointed by the Court through Legal Aid and is on Legal Aid’s Family Law Panel. Over the years, Rod has been involved in a number of organisations and sports. Probably the most significant was an organisation called Rotaract. Current interests are travel, theatre, tennis, and wine (not necessarily in that order).

Name: Kent Lyon

Position: Deputy Chair

Kent is a Registered Architect, with architecture degrees from the University of Washington and University of Western Australia, as part of his interests in the environment and heritage he attained the Green Star Accredited Professional in 2007 and International Member of ICOMOS (Heritage) since 2013, with more than 28 years of experience in architecture, project management and team leadership experience. Kent has been a member of the Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Inc Board of Management since 2006 during which time he’s held the roles of treasurer and deputy chair. During his spare time, he is involved with the Australian Institute of Architects, with a current role as chair for a review panel which he’s been involved with for the past two years. More recently he has been appointed to the Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School Board of Governors after his involvement with their Building & Grounds and Risk Committees since 2012. In his practice of architecture there is no project too big or too small with a range of projects that incorporate sustainable principles, including housing, schools, workshops, offices, art galleries, museums and hospitals in WA.

Name: Shane Kaurin

Position: Treasurer

Shane joined AMD in July 2001 as an undergraduate and has developed his skills and knowledge during his time with the firm to be appointed a Director in July 2013. Shane completed his Bachelor of Business at the South West Campus of ECU in June 2002 and completed his Certified Practising Accountant studies in 2004. Shane currently provides Tax & Advisory services to a broad cross section of clients. Shane has been a local to the South West area for his entire life, growing up in Collie. He enjoys the recreational and social aspects the South West has to offer and believes that the area provides an ideal balance for work and lifestyle.

Name: Jacqueline Lahne

Position: Secretary

Jacqueline is the Operations Support/Cultural Development Manager at the South West Catchment Council.

Name: Mark Exeter

Position: Ex Officio - South West Development Commission Representative

Mark is the Senior Regional Development Officer for the South West Development Commission.

Name: Todd Brown

Position: Community Representative - Bunbury City Council

Todd is a Councillor for the City of Bunbury.

Name: Fiona Skilbeck

Position: Community Representative - Business

Fiona was Vice President for two years with the local Bunbury Geographe Chamber of Commerce, prior to becoming president in 2014 and
has been actively involved for many years. Fiona and her husband Don own and operate Bunbury City Glass. Fiona has completed 10
years with Regional Development Australia’s South West Board. Fiona is looking forward to another year assisting businesses in the
local area.

Name: Sam Morris

Position: Community Representative - Tourism

Taffys owner, Sam Morris, was a local high school teacher for 32 years, had decided it was time for a sea change. Taking many of the family recipes handed down to him over the years, he opened the best little candy factory in the South West in September 2003. Sam has also been a City Councillor for the City of Bunbury. Sam most enjoys his time with his little granddaughter, Mikayla.

Governance

New Association Members can be accepted, please ask for a nomination form at the front desk. Membership once accepted by the Board is $5.00 per person per year - reviewed annually at the AGM. The next AGM which was scheduled for the 26th March 2020 has been cancelled due to COVID-19 advice from State Government.
