School excursions

At the Dolphin Discovery Centre (DDC) we provide curriculum-focused educational activities and field based learning in marine and environmental studies.

The Dolphin Discovery Centre is located 90 minutes south of Perth on the foreshore of Koombana Bay in Bunbury and is surrounded by a diverse range of marine and coastal habitats including the Indian Ocean, Koombana Bay, the Leschenault Estuary, the Leschenault Inlet and the mangroves. Each habitat represents a unique natural resource and offers an ideal opportunity for learning.

In consultation with the WA Department of Education and Training, DDC has created an educational science-based program in place that includes:

  1. Dolphins and their Environment (DDC, Theatre and Beach)
    • Key Learning Area: Science, Society and Environment
    • Other Learning Areas: Mathematics, The Arts.
    • Duration: 60 – 90 minutes
  2. What’s in the Mud (Mangrove Forest Excursion)
    • Key Learning Area:  Science, Society and Environment
    • Other Learning Areas: Mathematics, The Arts.
    • Duration: 90 minutes
  3. Everything Marine (DDC and the Mangrove Forest Combined) Boats, Biology and the Bay (A.B.Sea Charters Cruise)
    • Duration: 120 minutes
    • Everything Marine (DDC and the Mangrove Forest Combined)
  4. Dolphins and their Environment (DDC, Theatre and Beach)
    • Key Learning Area: Science, Society and Environment
    • Other Learning Areas: Mathematics, The Arts.
    • Duration: 60 – 90 minutes

An education booklet is Education Booklet 2012 [1.6mb] and has a comprehensive range of educational activities and excursions available from Early Childhood to Year 9.
