The Dolphin Discovery Centre is a not for profit Incorporated organisation run by a Board of volunteers. The Board members are all local members of our community and have generously offered their time to be a part of the Dolphin Discovery Centre Team.
Chairman: Mr Rod Kroon
Rod is a Legal Practice Director Accredited Family Specialist for Kroon Legal in Bunbury. He is also Vice President of the Bunbury Repertory Club and Treasurer of the South West & Great Southern Law Society. Rod acts as an Independent Children’s Lawyer appointed by the Court through Legal Aid and is on Legal Aid’s Family Law Panel. Over the years, Rod has been involved in a number of organisations and sports. Probably the most significant was an organisation called Rotaract. Current interests are travel, theatre, tennis, and wine (not necessarily in that order).
Deputy Chair: Mr Kent Lyon
Kent is a Registered Architect, with architecture degrees from the University of Washington and University of Western Australia, as part of his interests in the environment and heritage he attained the Green Star Accredited Professional in 2007 and International Member of ICOMOS (Heritage) since 2013, with more than 28 years architecture, project management and team leadership experience. Kent has been a member of the Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Inc Board of Management since 2006 during which time he’s held the roles of treasurer and deputy chair. During his spare time he is involved with the Australian Institute of Architects with a current role as chair for a review panel which he’s been involved with for the past 2 years. More recently he has been appointed to the Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School Board of Governors after his involvement with their Building & Grounds and Risk Committees since 2012. In his practice of architecture there is no project too big or too small with a range of projects that incorporate sustainable principles including housing, schools, workshops, offices, art galleries, museums and hospitals in WA.

Treasurer: Mr Shane Kaurin
Shane joined AMD in July 2001 as an undergraduate and has developed his skills and knowledge during his time with the firm to be appointed a Director in July 2013. Shane completed his Bachelor of Business at the South West Campus of ECU in June 2002 and completed his Certified Practising Accountant studies in 2004. Shane currently provides Tax & Advisory services to a broad cross section of clients. Shane has been a local to the South West area for his entire life, growing up in Collie. He enjoys the recreational and social aspects the South West has to offer and believes that the area provides an ideal balance for work and lifestyle.
Community Representative: Mr Lars Bejder
Prof. Bejder is Head of Murdoch University’s Cetacean Research Unit (MUCRU; www.mucru.org
) where he supervises higher degree research students (PhDs and MScs) and is responsible for the academic and strategic development of MUCRU. He has studied various aspects of cetacean (whale and dolphin) biology, ecology and conservation in New Zealand, Australia and US (Hawaii, Florida and California). He works closely with wildlife management agencies to optimise the conservation- and management outcomes of research. He also advises on anthropogenic impacts on cetaceans to: IUCN Cetacean Specialist Group, US Marine Mammal Commission; US National Marine Fisheries Service; International Whaling Commission; Australian Federal Government; Western Australian Department of Parks and Wildlife; New Zealand Department of Conservation. He serves/d on the Board of the Society of Marine Mammalogy and on the Scientific Committee of the International Whaling Commission (IWC).
Community Representative: Sam Morris
Taffys owner, Sam Morris, was a local high school teacher for 32 years, had decided it was time for a sea change. Taking many of the family recipes handed down to him over the years, he opened the best little candy factory in the South West in September 2003. Sam is also a City Councillor for the City of Bunbury. Sam most enjoys his time with his little Granddaughter Mikayla.
Community Representative: Wayne Wright
Wayne Wright has over 30 years’ experience in accounting, information technology and business management at State and Local Government levels. As the Principal at Management Technology Solutions Pty Ltd, Wayne has employed his extensive experience in strategic management consulting, business system development and implementation and software distribution. Management Technology Solutions, founded in 1999, assists both companies and government organisations that are looking to improve their financial and operating performance.
